This Good News Story comes from our ParentsNext Port Macquarie Mentor – Katrina Humble. This heart-warming story encapsulates the essence of the ParentsNext program and follows the journey of a local Mum starting a new and positive chapter in her life.
Lesley* a local woman in her early 40’s, recently connected with CHESS Connect in Port Macquarie. She had a two teenagers and an old and an 18 month old – all girls. She had never worked and lacked confidence and direction when it came to planning for, and perusing, employment. Katrina met with Lesley twice and organised for her to go to story time at the library with her youngest daughter. She also asked for assistance with putting together a resume as a friend asked her to apply for a cleaning job. Together, Katrina and Lesley collaborated to create a resume that highlighted Lesley’s skills and strengths.
Meeting with the ParentsNext Mentor at CHESS Connect had given Lesley the support and confidence she needed to look for opportunities in the workforce. The next week she called Katrina to excitedly tell her she had just secured a work trial.
Lesley is now working 15- 20 hours per week and earning a wage. It is the first time in her life she has earnt her own money and she is proud to be setting such a positive example for her young girls.
Lesley tells us how grateful she is to have connected with CHESS Connect and the ParentsNext program as it gave her the confidence and motivation to get out of her comfort zone and pursue employment.
