The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is setting Human Services on a new path, transforming the sector to customer choice and open market competition (well…nearly).
Health services are being transformed through the integration of services and greater collaboration by providers to deliver earlier intervention. Other sectors including employment services are also experiencing the same level of change. This is being created by the need to improve outcomes for the customers of these services, at a lower cost for governments.
Many long term providers of services in these sectors that have the people and skills to compete are being challenged by the demands of new business models. The industry life cycle for these sectors is at the “shake- out” stage.
The industry is responding in a number of ways including; consolidation through mergers; stronger partnerships and alliances to deliver services; specialising in core services and exiting business activities that do not add value to the core.
To establish a sustainable business model, strategies must be crafted that align with the organisation’s vision and values. The vision must clearly set you apart from the competitors, large and small.
